Brown Discoloration with Abbott Medical Optics (AMO) Intraocular Lens (IOL)

HSA would like to update healthcare professionals of eight incident reports of brown discoloration occurring with the Abbott Medical Optics (AMO) intraocular lens (IOLs) that were detected post-implantation. The affected IOLs are AMO Sensar 1-Piece IOL, Model AAB00 (“AAB00 lens”) and AMO Tecnis 1-Piece IOL, Model ZCB00 (“ZCB00 lens”). To date, the affected patients have not experienced any visual impairment due to the brown discoloration. Healthcare professionals are advised to check that the AAB00 and ZCB00 lens are free from discoloration prior to implantation, and monitor the patients for lens discoloration post-operatively. Healthcare professionals are also advised to report any events observed on lens discoloration to HSA and/or AMO. Please refer to the attached letter for further information.
